King Shaka International Airport provides the winning formula for Science in KZN Schools....

King Shaka International Airport’s recent investment has resulted in a welcome boost for Education in the Inanda and Kwa-Mashu areas.

Six lucky schools are the proud recipients of the latest CAPS compliant Maths and Natural Science kits as well as Mobile libraries which have been kindly donated by King Shaka International Airport. It is envisaged that this will contribute to an improvement in the learner’s performance in Science, Technology, and Engineering at school level so that more learners can pursue careers requiring these subjects at tertiary level which is essential to the economic growth of our country in future years.

One of the initiatives led by the Department of Basic Education is the read to lead campaign that started in 2015 to mobilise all South Africans to embrace the culture of reading as an activity that must happen daily and should be part of our lives.

It is befitting that today we proudly hand-over these resources as aiding tools to previously disadvantaged schools and ensure learners have equal access to educational resources as those in private schools. Hence, we want to congratulate and celebrate with you this extraordinary day in your lives, while challenging you to study further become skilled and qualified young people with the hope that one day some of you will be working for ACSA,” said Colin Naidoo, Senior Manager Corporate Affairs at King Shaka International Airport.

Under the management of King Shaka International Airport’s Socio-Economic Development division, an amount of R500 000.00 was provided to fund this project. A good education is founded on the premise that the environment be conducive to the practice of learning. It should be able to make available to learners the infrastructure, facilities and resources necessary for learning. Sadly, in South Africa the legacy of our past does not always render this basic fundamental a reality. All too often we find that our country's schools - especially those serving the historically disadvantaged or today's lower income groups - do not measure-up.

Many fall short in terms of both infrastructure and the provision of the tools necessary to give effect to efficient teaching and effective learning and we hope that our contribution is a small step to making an improvement said Paul Makhanya, SED Specialist at King Shaka International Airport.

The principals and teachers of the six primary schools, Hlengimpilo primary, Imbaliyamazulu Primary, Buhlebethu Primary, Nhlonipho primary, Mandlakayise primary and Zammimfundo primary were absolutely delighted to receive these comprehensive CAPS-compliant resources for the benefit of their learners. The science & maths kits will be used by learners so that they have a "solid grounding" of science & maths at each grade as they approach matric as well as boost their literacy skills.
