This year marks the 100th centenary year of Nelson Mandela’s birth date.
To celebrate the legacy of this great man was the annual Mandela Day to pay it forward and try change the world, no matter how small, making it a better place.
Musgrave Centre, along with 21 other SA Corp shopping Centre’s in South Africa, has embraced education as its long term, ongoing, community outreach program, which they have called the SOS (Support Our Schools) initiative.
Ultimately, education will allow our children to have better futures.
For Mandela Day, July 18th, Musgrave Centre called for the public to support the children of Berea Primary School by donating books and stationery to these young primary school learners, Along with the stationery donated by the public, Musgrave Centre also donated R5000 worth of stationery. These basic educational items are taken for granted by many of us, yet there are still thousands of children that don’t have access to these basic classroom necessities.
On the day, members of the public were also invited to join the staff members of Musgrave Centre and the team at Alexander Caruth, who donated their time and R10 000 worth of paint, for one of the Berea Primary aftercare classrooms, as well as one of their school passages, to help brighten up the area.
