ZEE WORLD AND SAME FOUNDATION ACCELERATE SCIENCE AND MATHS EDUCATION AT DIEPDALE SCHOOL

Diepdale Secondary School in Diepkloof, Soweto, Gauteng now features a new state-of-the-art Physical Science and Maths infrastructure which includes two fully equipped laboratories and nine classrooms.

Established by Zee World DStv Channel 166, community upliftment NGO, the SAME Foundation and various stakeholders the new infrastructure will benefit almost 800 learners with a focus on grades 10 to 12.

Diepdale is a quintile one ranked school which means it serves a community in need and as a result the school required infrastructure, resources and support.

The intervention and ultimately the establishment of the new infrastructure will enable the children to reach their full potential ensuring they equipped to study at tertiary level or have the necessary tools to succeed after school.

Zee World contributed towards the establishment of one fully equipped maths classroom.  “It is an absolute privilege to be involved with the Diepdale School initiative; as an organisation we hope to contribute to an education environment where learners can flourish and become successful adults,” adds Harish Goyal, Chief Executive Officer – Asia Pacific & Africa at Zee Entertainment.

The Diepdale Secondary School project will give learners and teachers access to all the resources they need to follow the curriculum effectively – all in a learning-conducive environment.

The Physical Science and Maths infrastructure includes interactive e-learning systems in each of the classrooms which also include learning software. Other resources comprise new maths dictionaries, study guides, calculators and maths kits.

The Diepdale School project encompasses the following important objectives

  • Increase pass rates in science and maths;

  • Increase the uptake of science and maths;

  • Enable the overall pass rate to be a true reflection of the children’s abilities; and

  • Upskill and empower teachers.
