[Johannesburg, February 2026] The Legal Practitioners Fidelity Fund (LPFF) continues to advance public protection and legal education through its ongoing National Imbizos Programme. In partnership with the Legal Practice Council (LPC) and the Legal Practitioners Indemnity Insurance Fund (LPIIF), the LPFF remains committed to taking vital information directly to communities across South Africa.
The programme focuses on ensuring that South Africans understand their rights when dealing with legal practitioners, including how to report dishonest conduct and how to claim compensation when money or property has been stolen or misused. Across all provinces, the message remains clear: members of the public are not without recourse when a legal practitioner acts dishonestly.
Beyond information-sharing, the imbizos continue to create space for open and often emotional discussions. Community members share real experiences involving inheritance disputes, failed property transactions and misappropriated trust funds. For many, these engagements provide their first introduction to the LPFF and clarity on where to seek help.
The nationwide programme builds on strong participation recorded across all nine provinces, with strategically selected communities ensuring broad and inclusive reach. To date, more than 2 200 community members have been engaged through the imbizos, underscoring the ongoing need for accessible legal education, particularly in remote and under-served areas.
Speaking at one of the imbizos, the LPFF CEO Mr. Motlatsi Molefe reflected on the significance of the campaign, emphasising the Fund’s commitment to South Africans, “Our commitment goes beyond compliance. We engage directly with communities because people deserve to understand their rights, and they deserve institutions that show up for them. When someone has been let down by a legal practitioner, they are often hurt, confused, and unsure where to turn. The LPFF is here to restore hope, dignity, and ensure that no one walks that journey alone”
During each imbizo, representatives from the LPFF, LPC and LPIIF explain the claims process in clear, practical terms, including how to identify misconduct and what evidence is required. Sessions are conducted in local languages, enabling meaningful engagement and empowering communities with knowledge.
The impact of the programme continues to grow, with more South Africans understanding how to report misconduct and recognising that legal practitioner dishonesty does not mark the end of the road. The imbizos also reinforce that protecting the public is a shared responsibility, supported by community leaders and members of the legal profession.
This year, the LPFF will continue expanding the Imbizo programme, with a strong focus on reaching township and rural communities. Upcoming Imbizos will place greater emphasis on practical guidance, open dialogue and ensuring that no community is left without access to vital legal information.
