What comes to mind when mentioning a South African social custom or a way of cooking outdoors? Of course, it’s the good old Braai, and we can braai anything - boerie, chops, chicken, seafood, we can make deserts and even plant-based meals. There is nothing quite like gathering around a fire with your friends and family having a good old ‘kuier’.
There is always a good reason for South Africans to have a braai especially if it involves getting together with mates for a ‘dop n chop’, in fact it’s almost mandatory that as a South African, you braai on a regular basis, especially in Summer. So, all you avid braaiers will be delighted to hear that the Ultimate Braai Master (UBM) is back for a seventh season on e.tv in September. Equally exciting is that host Justin Bonello and judges, Chefs Pete Goffe-Wood and Benny Masekwameng are back and ready to challenge a whole new group of unsuspecting contestants!
The incredibly successful Ultimate Braai Master, a South African born reality TV series, was shot in the exquisite province of Gqeberha and will feature contestants from across South Africa, who will literally experience the braai motto ‘rain, wind or shine– we braai’, to test their will to stay in the competition.
“We would like take this opportunity to thank each sponsor for their unwavering support to ensure that season seven will be the best yet. Our sponsors, takealot, Castle, BRM, Fry’s, Fishermen’s Deli, Sun International’s Boardwalk Hotel, BIC, TotalEnergies, Sunday Times and the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, went above and beyond”, says Ultimate Braai Master’s marketing integration specialists - G2 Connection.
“The last 18 months have been a trying time for all South Africans, so I was delighted by the high standard of talent that applied to be a part of UBM, so much so that making the decision about the final teams was really tough”, commented Justin Bonello.
“We also spent time identifying great locations in the Nelson Mandela Bay area. We wanted locations that were going to test both the contestants’ resilience and cooking ability, and at the same time showcase what a great tourist destination NMB is. It is a very exciting series.”, Bonello concluded.
The return of Benny and Pete completes the UBM trio.
“What I most enjoy about Ultimate Braai Master is how the show’s diversity unites everyone around one fire. I really enjoy the innovation and creativity that this group brings to the show. The camaraderie that is built during the shoot endures long after the show has aired”, says Benny.
It is going to be great viewing from the get-go. This year’s theme, ‘Under Fire’ will surely have contestants feeling really hot with every challenge. South Africa, get ready for these famous words at the start of every episode … “Game On”!
Who will take ownership of the next Ultimate Braai Master title? Be sure to catch all the episodes on e.tv every Saturday from the 25th of September at 18h00 to find out. Repeated the following week on eReality every Saturday at 16h00 and eExtra, Sundays at 14h35.
