Never before has the UEFA Champions League (UCL) final been more accessible to South African football fans than when Heineken® brought the game to Soweto. On Saturday 3rd June, Heineken® hosted a live screening of the competition at Nasrec, near South Africa’s home of football, Soccer City.
Guests witnessed first-hand the battle between Juventus and Real Madrid. Juventus had already captured the Scudetto and Coppa Italia, meaning just Real Madrid stood between them and history as the ninth team to win the treble. At what can only be described as a world class viewing experience, Heineken® fans saw Real Madrid take the ultimate championship title in the closely-contested game.
Those lucky enough to win tickets to the live screening were hosted by Kamza and local soccer legend, Lucas Radebe while AKA, pro, Ms Cosmo and other great acts entertained the fans.
“Heineken® is an international premium brand and UCL is a premium soccer league, which is why for the first time ever we wanted to give South African soccer fans a premium viewing experience in SOWETO that they will never forget,” says Heineken® South Africa, marketing manager, Themba Ratsibe.
“Heineken® also prides itself as being a beer that is enjoyed all over the world. With that said we believe in world class experiences both locally and abroad. The Heineken® Champions Voyage, an exclusive cruise ship in Greece, allowed us to use our global scale and give our Heineken® fans a viewing experience of the UCL Final that they will never forget,” explains Themba Ratsibe. Media partners and local celebrity and football fan, Minnie Dlamini were also treated to an unforgettable Heineken® Voyage Experience to Mykonos, which was captained by none other than Brazil’s previous world player of the year, “Captain Ronaldinho”.
While the night may have belonged to Real Madrid, local soccer fans will never forget their once in a lifetime viewing experience, when it felt as though they too were in Cardiff cheering on their favourite team to victory.
HEINEKEN® Not for Sale to Persons under the Age of 18. Enjoy Responsibly.
