Teenage Township Magician wins at International College Magic Convention in China, heads back home to take gold in SA!

It’s a been a whirlwind week of excitement for teenage township magician Anele Dyasi as he walked away with a bronze award for winning third place at the International College Magic Convention in Beijing, China and now heads home to take gold at the 2015 South African Magic Championships at GrandWest, from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 October, 2015. 

Studying at the College of Magic, Cape Town’s only magical arts organisation, Dyasi represented South Africa at this renowned contest and impressed judges with his amazing Magic Money Bank act, focused on performing multiple coin tricks. Competing against his international peers from Taiwan, Australia, Peru, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Italy and more, Dyasi wowed and delighted the crowd with his proudly South African performance. 

The Convention is a three day festival of magic, held annually and featuring performances by professional and student magicians from 17 countries and regions, including China, the United States, Canada, Italy, the Republic of Korea and Japan. 

A Khayelitsha resident, the teen illusionist is an aspirant pilot who is no stranger to going wand to wand with global rivals, having performed at numerous international competitions including the International Magic Experience in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

Barely stopping to catch his breath after his jet setting travels, the 17-year-old wizard gears up to challenge his local counterparts for the Close-upMagician title at the 2015 South African Magic Championships, next. The SA Magic Championships is a triennial event held to select the best magician nationwide and this year’s edition is set to transform GrandWest into a mystical paradise.

  “To be named as a bronze award winner at this prestigious international competition is an incredible achievement! I look forward to putting all I’ve learnt from this experience into my performance at the SA Magic Championships,” says the boy wonder. 

Celebrating 35 years of teaching magic and its allied arts to children and adults in 2015, the College of Magic is a non-profit organisation and the only one of its kind in the world.

Dyasi is currently studying Leadership training and assisting as a Junior Staff Member, passing his skills to the even younger set.

“We are so incredibly proud of Anele!  He works really hard at honing all that we’ve taught him and to see him being recognised for that is a huge honour. We know he’ll be just as amazing at the SA Magic Championships “says David Gore, director of the College of Magic.
