Following its great success in 2006, the Out The Box Festival of Puppetry and Visual Performance is preparing for its third year in Cape Town and promises to be a landmark event with performances from around the world. The provocative Adult Festival will present high quality performances, a mini-conference, talks, workshops and carnivalesque parades; all in a festive environment with food, refreshment and craft stalls. Visual performance (including multidiciplined approach to theatre, dance, Live Art, puppetry, object theatre and new-media) is celebrated by Out The Box and is at the cutting edge of the arts world internationally.The programme features award-winning Dutch Puppeteers, ‘T Magische Theatertje with their acclaimed production ‘Panta Rhei II’. The Indirect Object from Australia with the show Venom and world famous puppeteers Theater Des Alberts, from Reunion will both be performing. There will also be performances from across the Africa with the Atuwa Troupe from Uganda and Genesis Arts Creations from Kenya. Leading the line up of local performances will be the Standard Bank Young Artist for Dance 2007, Acty Tang; Some of South Africa’s top visual performance companies will be presenting work. Saturday 15 September will be the launch of the Iqonga platform, a new initiative of the festival that provides emerging and professional artists with a space to showcase short experimental pieces. It is organised by Unima South Africa (The International Union of Marionette Art). The festival runs from the 10th - 15th Sepember at the Baxter Theatre and the Little Theatre Comlplex in Cape Town.
