Local Manga and Creative Talent to Shine at rAge Expo 2024
Johannesburg, 15 October 2024 – rAge Expo, South Africa's premier gaming, fandom, and tech event, is thrilled to announce that Shaylee van Oostrom, a 16-year-old self-taught artist from Kempton Park, will showcase her debut manga-inspired comic, "Demon Force", at this year’s event. Published by BK Publishing, Shaylee’s work exemplifies the rich creative talent emerging from the local scene.
Shaylee's journey as a comic author began with simple doodles, which grew into her first manga series. Inspired by My Hero Academia, "Demon Force" tells the story of a young boy, trained to become a hero, who battles against his evil brother’s attempts to thwart his progress.
"I'm excited to showcase my work at rAge Expo. It’s a dream come true to connect with fellow artists and fans of animation and comics," says Shaylee.
She will be at the BK Publishing stand in Hall 9 for the entire expo, selling signed copies of her comic as well as exclusive "Demon Force" merchandise. Shaylee has also launched a BackaBuddy campaign to fund her next volumes and support her future studies.
Beyond Shaylee, rAge Expo 2024 will feature over 40 talented creatives in the Artist Alley and on the Afro Geek stand.
