Introducing MC’S For Miss Soweto 2016

The 39th annual Miss Soweto Pageant - sponsored by White Star Super Maize Meal - is taking place at The Soweto Theatre on Saturday, 3rd December 2016, and promises to be a night filled with unprecedented beauty, flair and proudly South African entertainment. The top 20 finalists for Miss Soweto 2016 have all been carefully selected. Having undergone an intense period of coaching, judging, rehearsals and public appearances since they were officially announced on Saturday, 8 October, the finalists are now in the final stages of preparation before the grand finale.
Here’s a look at this year’s MC’s, who make sure that each of the top 20 gets an opportunity to wow the judges with their talents, personas and beauty, while the audience is entertained by the eight unique acts who were discovered during this year’s White Star Talent Search competition.
Thato Molamu is a South African actor best known for his starring role as Nicholas Nomvete, a spoiled brat who is trying to make headway in the advertising industry, in the SABC1 soap opera Generations, joining the cast in 2011. The 2010 Brett Goldin Bursary Winner, Molamu started acting at the North West Arts Council in 1996 with kiddies shows like The Grandball and Jack In The Box. He worked on his first Shakespearean plays from 2001, including A Midsummer Nights Dream, King Lear, Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. He studied Film and Broadcasting at Damelin in 2005 and did his first musical, Where The Sun Rises, in 2004. He also appeared in Meropa in 2006 as Phuti. His television credits include Baas Van Die Plaas with Sean Else, Hillside, Phycosis, television ad and Actors Anonymus. Other credits include MABRR Brenda Fassie (Musical) at the Pretoria State Theatre, Intersexions. In 2014, he hosted the SABC2 game show what’s Behind the Wall? He had a guest starring role in the SABC1 drama series Kowethu in late 2014 and the following year landed a major recurring role as TK Morare, in the e.tv drama series Umlilo. In early 2016 he guest starred on the second season of the SABC1 drama series Mfolozi Street before landing the lead role in the Mzansi Magic telenovela Greed & Desire. In October 2016 he joined the Mzansi Magic entertainment magazine programme All Access Mzansi as one of the hosts, alongside fellow new presenter Nomalanga Shozi and returning host Mbali Nkosi.
The gorgeous Refiloe started modelling at the age of 10 when she was crowned Miss Molemo Primary School, since then, she never looked back. She was then crowned Miss Soweto High Schools 2001 and Miss Spring 2001 when she was still in high school. She moved to Tembisa in the year 2006, she was then crowned Miss Tembisa 2007. Then crowned Miss Soweto 1 princess 2009 and during the same year was a semi-finalist (top 30) in the Miss South Africa beauty pageant.
In 2009, the multi-talented Refiloe discovered her love for dance; she then became a dancer for some of South Africa's talented musicians like Pumeza and Shorta (member of the group Shana). She then performed during the Confederations Cup in 2009 as a McDonalds Fan Dancer, where she was trained by South Africa's best choreographer Lorcia Cooper.
One of her current mainstream which is MC. She has graced different stages, at the celebrity birthdays, Proudly SA events, UJ fresher’s ball, Vodacom, Beauty pageants. And social events, she has also facilitated government event (dpsa).
She is currently a radio personality at the leading community radio station Jozi FM, hosting the 12 - 3pm slot ( Mondays to Fridays) and the local top 20 hits count down show 6-10pm (Fridays). She continues to grace our screens to date, as presenter on Tshwane TV for the National Prosecuting Authority. M-net Africa Magic and Soweto TV are some of the TV stations she has worked for. She oozes with confidence; she is well spoken, elegant and professional, and most of all she is ago-getter.
