Groundbreaking Evidence from Ancient Greek Sources Highlights Partial African Ancestry of the Legendary Hero Hercules
Submitted by: Greek MythologyLondon, UK — October 2024 — In celebration of Black History Month UK, the YouTube channel @GreekMythology-Ilivision has revealed compelling new research about the legendary hero Hercules (Herakles in Greek mythology), tracing his lineage to his great-grandmother Andromeda, an Aethiopian princess of African descent. This revelation is based on ancient Greek literary sources and presents an enriched understanding of Hercules' heritage.
By drawing on evidence from historians like Herodotus, Diodorus Siculus, Eratosthenes, and Pseudo Apollodorus, the research points to Andromeda's African origins. Her homeland, Aethiopia, was located south of Egypt, and Greek historians described its inhabitants as having "black skin and woolly hair." The new evidence highlights Hercules' African ancestry and offers a more inclusive interpretation of Greek mythology.
"We aim to offer a new perspective that enriches the understanding of Greek mythology and challenges preconceived notions of race in ancient history," said a representative of @GreekMythology-Ilivision. "Recognizing Andromeda's African heritage reminds us that Hercules, one of mythology's most iconic figures, was partially Black."
This discovery underscores the connections between ancient Greece and Africa, restoring overlooked aspects of mythology and fostering a more nuanced historical narrative. For a deeper exploration, visit @GreekMythology-Ilivision on YouTube.
