Supporting local enterprises is a strong part of the Garden Court Marine Parade (https://www.tsogosun.com/garden-court-marine-parade) ethos. The hosting of a craft beer and food pairing event on 17 July showcased the range of award-winning beers and gins from local brewery, The Standeaven Brewery, and highlighted this support, while also giving guests glorious taste experiences.
The menu developed by the Tsogo Sun hotel’s Chef Qahwe Tshabalala together with The Standeaven Brewery, included Fillet of cured Scottish salmon with a G&T jelly glaze, served with Standeaven’s Classic Gin with tonic and lemon, with complementing fresh and citrusy flavours; Beef sliders with the brewery’s alcoholic Rascal Sour Cherry Ginger Beer batter onion rings and caramelised onion and served with the ginger beer; Mini goats cheese tartlets with caramelised red onion and the brewery’s Golden Mile beer reduction served with the Golden Mile lager; Dark chocolate truffles infused with a G&T Pomegranate reduction; and two sushi variants – Cured Scottish salmon roses with a spicy wasabi mayonnaise and caviar, and Traditional Japanese nigiri, which were paired with both the pomegranate gin and the Golden Mile lager to highlight the different flavours that the drinks brought out.
Shaun Standeaven, the brewery’s founder, says, “We have worked with the Garden Court Marine Parade for several years, and were privileged to develop a beer exclusively for the hotel in celebration of their 30th anniversary two years ago, the Golden Mile, which is an easy-drinking and light lager designed for KZN’s laid back and warm sunny days – and as the hotel’s exclusive ‘house lager’, it has proved very popular since it was introduced.”
Thegan Subramany, Tsogo Sun’s Marketing Manager – KZN, adds, “The Standeaven Brewery’s world-class products and sustainable practices, and their commitment to use local ingredients, is a perfect fit for Garden Court Marine Parade which is constantly striving to find ways to improve our sustainability standards, while always ensuring excellent service and memorable experiences for our guests.”
