Creative Trailblazer, Jandri Niemand, appointed Executive Chef at Fairlawns Award-winning five-star boutqiue hotel, Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa, is excited to announce that Jandri Niemand has joined their team as the Head Chef. With creativity coursing through his veins, Chef Jandri is a perfect fit as he adds his palatable flair to the cuisine and ambience of Fairlawns. With close attention to detail and exceptional service, Fairlawns creates an intimate atmosphere, and “it is this detail that is closely aligned with my food”, shares Chef Jandri, “the property is beautiful and there is so much detail that goes into everything, and my food mirrors that seamlessly”. Born and bred in Cape Town, the outdoors shaped his outlook to appreciate the smaller things in life, and what defined the determination and perseverance he projects onto the present and into the future. Growing up in a family with cooks, his feet are planted firmly on the ground, rooted in artistic creativity with a deep love for the culinary art. Jandri’s talent extends to Abstract Art which he does as a hobby, superbly, having sold several pieces. In fact, he initially considered studying Interior Design. The three pillars which has forged his exceptional career are discipline, structure and respect. “This is what keeps me dedicated to family values, being true to myself and staying humble. Every day is a new day, and that keeps me level-headed and focused on the now.” With a background in Five Star Hotels, Jandri describes his food as “constructive chaos”, as he balances his natural flair with being on trend to create food that is appealing to all senses. He has come a long way from starting in Hospitality as a Storeman and using his core principles to build a career that led to doors opened to unimagined opportunities, such as a bursary at the renowned Swiss Hotel School. He was soon offered a position in Dubai as the Sous Chef and within two years was the Head Chef, at what was then considered the most modern restaurant in the world, Switch – at age 22! In 2010, he returned to South Africa and is based in Gauteng, where his illustrious career continues. Within the industry he is known as ‘The Beast’, for his unwavering demand and pursuit of perfection.
