Durban-born filmmaker Bianca Isaac will lead the red carpet at the premiere of her latest feature film The Honeymoon in her home province of KwaZulu Natal. Cornubia Mall Nu Metro in partnership with Absa will roll out the red carpet for the cast, crew, media and celebrities to toast to The Honeymoon on 22nd March 2023.
Isaac’s fourth feature film, The Honeymoon tells the story of three best friends Kat (Kajal Bagwandeen), Noks(Tumi Morake) and Lu(Minnie Dlamini); who find themselves jetting off to Zanzibar after one of them is left shattered by her fiancé cancelling their wedding the night before she walks down the aisle. What is meant to be a fun getaway to an exotic island turns into a series of misadventures that expose the rifts among the once-close besties, who explosively drift away from each other by the end of their island trip.
With the majority of filming having been in Durban, supported by Kwa-Zulu Natal Film Commission and KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs the film is a showcase for the province’s growing film industry. The stylish, sweeping aerial shots of Durban highlight the beauty and vibrancy of the city as both a tourist destination as well as a filming location.
A local film industry insider is quoted as saying, “We are very excited to see how audiences across the country will support The Honeymoon. The film doesn’t just follow the misadventure of three best friends, it has a much deeper meaning running through its core: that home is where the heart is. Kat, Noks and Lu travel all the way to Zanzibar where they face the reality of how fractured their friendship is, only mending fences once they are back home. Home is what bonds these three friends to each other, home is where they find each other again and it is beautiful to experience the chemistry and obvious love these friends have for each other on the big screen.”
The film has been receiving international independent awards and festival attention, having screened at the 31st Pan Africa Film Festival where it received the Programmer’s Award for Best Narrative Feature. The New African Film Festival, running from 17th to 30th March 2023, and The Australia and New Zealand South African Film Festival, scheduled for May 2023, have also included The Honeymoon as part of their Official Selections for 2023.
The Honeymoon is Directed by Bianca Isaac and produced by Gregory Mthanji, stars Kajal Bagwandeen, Tumi Morake and Minnie Dlamini.
