Cool-Runnings family adventure

We’re talking about the Cool-Runnings toboggan track on the hillside opposite the Bellville Velodrome. Cool-Runnings is Africa’s first toboggan run, not on snow, but on stainless steel. It is the summer version of a thrilling winter sport. The 1,25 kilometres of twisting and curving stainless steel half-pipe that will soon open as the Cool-Runnings toboggan track, is easily seen making its way down this Durbanville hillside. From the 30 June 2007 everyone will have the chance to try it out for the very first time.
This form of tobogganing has been around since 1976, with over 280 stainless steel tracks worldwide installed by the German inventor company Wiegand. Cape Town was chosen as the most favourable location for Africa’s first track. Cool-Runnings fills the gap in this vibrant city for an affordable adventure activity that can entertain the whole family. No other local activity can match the value offered at Cool-Runnings; safe parking and free entry for everyone, a single ride costing just R10 for a child, three rides for R25, a whole day’s worth of unlimited rides for only R50, and a three-month unlimited child pass only R100.This makes Cool-Runnings tobogganing a real family affair and even children under eight years old can have a go by sitting in front of an adult. Children eight and over get to sit aboard their own bob-sled and take off down the track. The bob-sleds are on wheels and have specially designed braking systems for riders to utilize in order to slow down at their discretion.Advanced riders can reach a top speed of 40km per hour.
