Cape Town World Cinema Festival to host film studio at the 2006 Design Indaba

Submitted by: Sithengi
[Pressportal.co.za] The Cape Town World Cinema Festival (CTWCF) will host a film studio at the Design Indaba on 24 and 25 February 2006 bringing an awesome lineup of mostly local films, but at the same time adding a twist of international flavour, to this creative platform.
After a successful Festival last year, which saw a 10% increase in attendance from 16000 in 2004 to 18115 in 2005, the CTWCF continues to celebrate excellent home-grown films throughout the year by participating in various arts, culture and creative events such as the Design Indaba.

The Design Indaba Expo aims to create discerning consumers through exposure to the principles and products of good design, resulting in the demand and production of innovative, evolving and excellent South African creative product. In the same vein the CTWCF strives to promote the development of and trade in local television and film product to a global market through the Sithengi Film & Television Market, whilst presenting an international showcase of prolific films through the Cape Town World Cinema Festival. It is evident that the film industry in South Africa is fast becoming a hot export of film product - making the Oscars two years in a row certainly bears testament to that.

The films that will be shown at the Design Indaba are a mix of feature films, documentaries and short films interspersed with South African produced commercials. Some of the films to look out for are documentaries, Let’s Hit the Streets; Liberia: A Fragile Peace and For Better or for Worse, with short films, What Goes Around Comes Around, Killer October and Beyond Freedom.

Absolutely not-to-be-missed feature films to be shown are Wah Wah directed by Richard E. Grant; Yasmin directed by Kenneth Glenaan, Conversations on a Sunday Afternoon directed by Khalo Matabane with closing feature films, U-Carmen eKayelitsha directed by Mark Dornford-May and Faith’s Corner directed by Darrell Roodt. Directors, producers or other film representatives will be present to introduce their films and to answer any questions at the end of each screening.

Films will be screened on Friday, 24 February between 7pm - 11pm and Saturday, 25 February between 10am – 11pm. The comfortable film studio, which accommodates 350 people, will be located in Room 1.40 situated on the 1st floor of the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). A R35 admission fee allows you entry into the Design Indaba Expo as well as the Film Studio, to see all the movies on offer at no extra cost.

If you’d like to find out more about us, then we invite you to our corporate presentations where we will elaborate more on the CTWCF and its business component, the Sithengi Film & TV Market on Saturday, 25 February at 10h00 and 12h15.

We would like to thank Ster Kinekor; Cape Film Commission; Videovision Entertainment and Big World Cinema for kindly contributing to this amazing line-up of films.
