Cape Town magicians, Alexander May and Stuart Lightbody, were recently awarded first places in the Stage Magic and Close-Up Magic categories respectively during the 2023 SA National Magic Championships.
The Championships was hosted by the College of Magic and the Cape Magicians Circle and took place on Saturday 7 October 2023 at the Homecoming Centre (previously Fugard Theatre).
Magicians from across the country headed to the Mother City and took part in the battle of the wands. There are two categories for which performers competed: Stage and Close-up Magic. Each contestant had 10 minutes to perform, and a panel of judges awarded points based on criteria such as originality, audience reactions, entertainment value and more.
There was also a Junior Competition for students from the College of Magic to present their magic.
