Creating blankets out of 2400 knitted squares was a Randridge Mall team effort on the part of shoppers, staff and tenants.
Once all the multi coloured squares that had been knitted been stitched together to form bright and warm blankets, they were dry cleaned and sanitised.
Then, Randridge Mall delivered 80 blankets to the Thandanani House of Refuge based in Roodeport last weekend, which cares for abandoned, abused, orphaned and neglected children.
Caretaker Claudia Masewawtla said that the little ones in their care needed extra warmth during these chilly winter months and thanked all who were involved on behalf of the children.
Randridge Mall’s Marketing manager, Siphelele Sokhela added her thanks: “We would like to thank both the staff that knitted the squares and the community members who transformed them into warm, cuddly blankets for helping us to reach out to these children. We know that Madiba loved children and, through this project, we have proved that, if we work together, we can reach out to those who need us most.”
