National School of the Arts Celebrates a Vibrant Month of Creativity and Connection at Joburg Theatre

Johannesburg – The National School of the Arts (NSA) proudly presents an exhilarating month of artistic expression, featuring a dynamic program of performances at Joburg Theatre. Following the success of last weekend’s Sip and Paint, NSA continues to showcase its dedication to nurturing young talent through captivating productions that span music, dance, and drama.
From the evocative storytelling of Creative Confluence: Moving Stories to the exhilarating sounds of the NSA Jazz & Pop Ensembles in Concert, audiences will experience a spectacular fusion of creativity, culture, and talent.
Creative Confluence: Moving Stories – A Powerful Exploration of Movement and Expression
NSA’s Dance and Drama Departments unite for Creative Confluence – Moving Stories, a unique performance exploring themes of grief, healing, and transformation through physical theatre and movement. The production features the premiere of Comforted Mourners, a compelling new work by NSA alum Evelyn Mabikwa, performed by Grade 12 Drama learners.
With support from the National Arts Council through the PESP 5 funding cycle, this performance merges choreography, theatre, and elemental symbolism to create a thought-provoking artistic experience.

Exclusive Workshop: Dance and Movement Improv
As part of Creative Confluence, NSA’s Dance Department will host a Dance and Movement Improv Workshop on Saturday, 15 March from 11:00 to 13:00. Led by guest facilitators Tshepo Zasekhaya and Evelyn Mabikwa, this session offers aspiring performers an opportunity to explore movement and expression in a dynamic, collaborative space.

NSA Jazz & Pop Ensembles in Concert – A Musical Homecoming
NSA’s Music Department presents the highly anticipated 2nd Edition of the NSA Jazz & Pop Ensembles in Concert – a celebration of diverse musical genres featuring the NSA choir, jazz band, orchestra, and standout soloists.
This year’s performance is particularly special, as it welcomes back two internationally renowned NSA alumni:
Zoë Modiga – Multi-award-winning jazz and soul vocalist, known for her rich sound and storytelling through music. Reflecting on her return, Modiga shares: “The National School of the Arts is a sanctuary, a place where artistically gifted individuals come together to be empowered. I am thrilled to make memories and magic with the students whose journey I intimately understand. This is my gratitude through song—a heartwarming, full-circle moment.”
Dr. Samson Diamond – Acclaimed violinist and former leader of the Free State Symphony Orchestra and Odeion String Quartet, Diamond has performed with prestigious orchestras worldwide. On returning to NSA, he says: “This concert is deeply meaningful for me. NSA is where my love for music was first nurtured, and I hope to inspire today’s students to embrace the boundless opportunities ahead.”

The NSA choir and dance corps include students from across the school’s four specialist departments, showcasing the versatility and artistic excellence that defines NSA.
