Celebrate with Toys R Us and Solarpop on 28 Feb as Pokemon turns 30
Written by: Twiga communications Save to InstapaperSolarpop will be bringing Pokémon excitement to Toys R Us stores on 28 February from 9am to 12 midday, with in-store parties designed for the whole family. Expect balloons and Pokémon-themed décor, alongside face painting, fun photo opportunities, and plenty of playful moments for kids and parents alike. What’s more, the first fifty children under the age of 14 years will receive a themed bag filled with exciting Pokémon goodies.
Be entertained by the Pokémon activations team, and explore the world of trading card games, Pikachu, and more. If you’re a Pokémon fan or you’re curious about the globally celebrated brand, visit one of the following Toys R Us stores and join the festivities:

Catherine Jacoby, Marketing Manager, Toys R Us South Africa, says: “We’ve seen a noticeable surge in demand for Pokémon trading cards across our stores and online platforms. What’s particularly interesting is that this growth isn’t limited to kids; we’re seeing strong interest from adult collectors too. The category has evolved into a cross-generational phenomenon, driven by nostalgia, collectability, and the excitement of discovering rare cards. Trading cards tap into several powerful trends at once: there’s the thrill of the ‘pull’ with every booster pack, the social aspect of trading and tournament play, and the rise of unboxing culture on platforms like YouTube and TikTok. For us, it’s not just about stocking a product; it’s about supporting a community of collectors and players that continues to grow year after year.”
Philip Galliford, Marketing Manager for Solarpop, has a similar sentiment. “Pokémon remains the best-selling trading card game in the world, and that kind of legacy only happens when a brand keeps bringing generations together. We’re excited to celebrate 30 years of Pokémon with Toys R Us, and to create in-store moments that open a universe of play and let families share in the fun.”
