Online taxi wars game success a measure of SA publics frustration
Written by: iLogic Save to Instapaper{pp}The controversial online Taxi-Wars game appears to have tapped into a vein of public frustration, given the huge interest in the story. With an increase of 70,000 visitors in the 24 hours since the story was published in the media, this clearly indicates that the SA public's continuous frustration with minibus taxis and their drivers is perhaps more intense than many believe. This game was designed by us simply as a tool to vent our feelings here in our office as a game. On numerous occasions, I personally have felt threatened by taxi drivers who seem to feel that it's necessary to take any risk to get to their destinations faster. The interest in this satirical game has really surprised us says Yoav Tchelet, Director of iLogic.
The attention being paid to this game could be construed as a barometer of public opinion. Over the past few days the taxi industry has been at pains to point out that it is only a minority of SA drivers that feel antagonistic towards taxi drivers. Perhaps the apparent success of this simple game serves to prove that the frustration runs much deeper. This has been an interesting couple of days. So surprised have we been, we've even had to move to a server that can cope with greater bandwidth. The public have clearly spoken on the issue ends Tchelet.
