The housing market used to be limited to show days and personal interactions with estate agents. Both have their distinct advantages but also come with limitations and inconveniences for the homebuyer and home seller. The Internet changed this process to a large extent; potential buyers are now able to surf property portfolios at all times. But this is rather dependent on the proximity of an internet-enabled device and remembering the estate agent's name and contact details. However, a new technology using the power of mobile phones will simplify the whole experience for both buyer and seller.
"Buying a house is an occasion," says Shaun Rimer of MobiProps. "People want to take a virtual tour of the potential house, post it on social media platforms and ask for opinions before they may even have viewed the house in person."
To enable this process MobiProps makes use of mobile messaging, whether that be SMS or a unique QR Code known as a MobiCode to deliver detailed and diverse content to the potential buyer. "This is about instantaneous communication" Shaun details. "We live in a world of instant gratification and people might see an estate agent's marketing collateral and will want to see the property in more detail there and then. They are less inclined to type out an estate agent's web address on a smartphone, they'd rather scan the MobiCode or receive a link via SMS". This connects the potential buyer instantaneously with the property for sale.
"You can imagine going house hunting on a Sunday afternoon and driving past a house for sale that catches your interest. In the past you would be limited to contacting the estate agent to view the house, which could be inconvenient for all the parties concerned. But now with the SMS link or MobiCode on the estate agent's sign you can take a virtual tour of the house whilst you are outside it and, if it takes your fancy, you can contact the estate agent instantaneously from the listing." Shaun explains.
You are now able to see photos, take a video tour and learn way more about the house than you ever could in the past - whether you're driving past a 'for sale' sign, looking in the window of your local agency or browsing the newspaper. Technology delivers it all to the palm of your hand simply by sending an SMS or scanning the MobiCode. Shaun points out that "this technology gives all parties involved exactly what they always wanted. Buyers get a virtual experience instantly by simply taking their phones out their pockets and the agents get to deliver a virtual show day experience in ways they never could before."
