Submitted by: Stewart Cousens

{pp}In the wake of South Africa’s power crisis there is light at the end of the tunnel. Leading Gauteng Developer Calgro M3 have been pro-active and are busy developing the first truly energy efficient residential developments in Honeydew Manor, namely Parkview and Westwood.

“Businesses have a responsibility towards the sustainability of the South African economy” comments Jan Roode, Marketing Director for Calgro M3 Marketing. “We decided to become part of the solution and not the problem.

Calgro M3 have designed the first truly energy-efficient residential estates which will cut energy requirements by 65% and reduce the homeowners’ electricity bill by 65%.” “Standard features of these new developments include solar powered geysers, gas appliances, insulated floors and ceilings and energy efficient lighting.

Apart from the reduction in energy usage Calgro M3 have employed other environmentally friendly practices, included in each unit is a three year subscription with a recycling company providing residents with recycling bins and the collection of refuse.”

“Generally people’s attitudes are changing as most of the South African public wants to make a difference, but they are not always sure how to do so.” “With potentially escalating energy prices, these types of homes will be in greater demand as they are much cheaper to run and have a positive impact on the environment.

A Parkview or Westwood client will be someone who wishes to ensure maximum growth on their investment while simultaneously investing in something which is sustainable.” Parkview and Westwood, both full title gated communities, overlook Eagle Canyon and have easy access to Clearwater Mall and Northgate, and Trinity School. Natural attractions close by include the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens and the Cradle of Humankind. Parkview consists of 45 units and buyers can choose from eleven different unit plans.

Standard finishes includes stainless steel appliances, granite tops, a built-in-braai and fire place, and automated garages. Westwood consists of 40 units and buyers have a choice from 9 unit plans, with standard finishes also including stainless steel appliances, granite tops, a built-in-braai and fire place, and automated garages. Sizes of the homes range from 130m2 to 250m2, with prices starting from R1,3 million.

Roode adds “ Calgro M3 takes pride in setting ourselves apart, not only do owners have the option of different finishes, but they have the choice of making changes to the design of their units. People are individuals and should be able to express their individuality in their homes” “Asides form Parkview and Westwood, Calgro M3 are also scheduled to launch a further two similar developments in Honeydew Manor, Ridgewood and Oakwood, within the next month” Registration is expected around October 2008, with occupation 6 months from date of registration.
