Dozens of Must-Have Prime Cape Town Properties under The Hammer This Month

One of Century City’s last business development lots, 10 prime period houses in Gardens, an outstanding address in Constantia, scarce land in Rondebosch and a massive residential site in Durbanville are among 34 premier real estate lots up for grabs in a bumper auction this month that’s all about South Africa’s hottest property market, Cape Town.

And according to High Street Auctions Director Greg Dart, the time to invest in Western Cape real estate is now, because the medium term forecast for the market is that prices will continue to climb.

“Lightstone data shows that the number of people semigrating to the coast – particularly the Western Cape – has increased from 31% to 46% over the past five years (2018 to 2023), and this reflects in Cape Town’s real estate prices.

“For many entrepreneurs it’s been a survival-based decision to relocate to a city that already offers 60% less load-shedding than the rest of the country, so it’s not surprising that registrations are through the roof for our November 23rd multi-property auction on behalf of the City of Cape Town.

“This is arguably the best selection of City real estate the Council has ever offered to the public in a single sale, and among the lots there is literally something for everyone.”

Dart says the auction lots include:

  • A massive 25 000m² GB3-zoned site on Century City Boulevard in Cape Town’s most prestigious commercial and lifestyle district, Century City. This ultimate mixed-used development combines top-tier retail and entertainment amenities with a luxury residential offering, all within walking distance of its myriad international corporate offices located within the secure precinct.
  • A market-first! In an unrivalled location, a row of eight semi-detached, broekie lace-trimmed period cottages in New Church Street, Gardens, equidistant from the V&A Waterfront and Table Mountain and just minutes from the Mother City’s most famous beaches. Collectively boasting 36 bedrooms, these cottages last changed hands 59 years ago, but the title deed traces this remarkable slice of Cape Town history back to 1879. The eight adjoining cottages, on a site measuring 2 341m², will be auctioned as one lot, with 47 New Church Street already set up as a 15-room lodge.
  • 3 Klein Constantia Road, Nova Constantia in Constantia, a Limited Use site of approximately 1 116m² with improvements of some 155m². Constantia is an exclusive and affluent suburb renowned for its pristine vineyards, historic estates and natural beauty. With land scarce in the suburb, this could be the location of your new dream house.
  • Two adjoining plots in Heath Road, Rondebosch, spanning 518m² and zoned GR4, which provides for the development of group housing or apartments. They will be auctioned as one lot. Rondebosch is one of Cape Town’s most desirable school feeder suburbs, surrounded by a host of amenities and just minutes from the CBD via the M3 or M5.
  • An enormous 1 952m² plot in Odendaal Street in the upmarket suburb of Durbanville that the Council rezoned from Open Space 2 to Single Residential, which offers an abundance of space for the fortunate buyer to design a palatial dream house.
  • Two historic City Bowl gems – adjoining cottages located at 21 and 23 Maynard Street, Gardens. These properties, each boasting four bedrooms, will be sold as separate lots. The first, on a 209m² stand, is zoned GR4, while the second, on a 206m² lot, is zoned GR2, although both carry IIIC heritage gradings.

High Street Auctions Associate Director Shawn van Jaarsveld says the remainder of the lots being auctioned on behalf of the City of Cape Town offer something for everyone.

“We’ll be auctioning a range of residential stands across the city, which we know from previous sales are in high demand.

“Our bidders span the gamut of newlyweds looking for just the right place to build their futures together, to gogos in their 80s buying their first ever pieces of land.

“For them we have residential plots across the Peninsula from Tafelsig to Delft, Maitland to Gugulethu, and everywhere in-between.

“There are also a handful of business and industrial property investment opportunities on offer, and of course the crucial work that our NGOs do hasn’t been forgotten, with four expansive community-zoned sites available for them to broaden their outreach.”

Van Jaarsveld says the City of Cape Town’s property auction will begin at noon sharp on November 23rd in Business Lounge G on Level 4 of DHL Stadium (formerly known as Cape Town Stadium) in Fritz Sonnenberg Road, Green Point, Cape Town.
