Serenity Hills celebrates release of rescued buck
Submitted by: Agnes MatladiWith conservation at the heart of this eco-focused estate, Serenity Hills on the KZN South Coast welcomed two new residents on Tuesday, 14 January 2025: a male Grey Duiker and a female Bush Buck. The animals, released in collaboration with FreeMe Wildlife, will enjoy a new home that blends coastal forest, hills, rock outcrops, grasslands, and plantation forests along the Vungu River.
Ryne Ferguson, Serenity Hills Estate Manager, explains that the buck were rescued and rehabilitated by FreeMe Wildlife in September 2024 and needed a safe, new home. “Some 70 hectares of this 120-hectare coastal estate is pristine conservation space, making it the ideal location for the release of these buck. We have plans for more wildlife introductions to the estate in the coming months as these will help maintain genetic diversity, which is vital for the ecosystem’s health.”
Celebrating a Conservation Milestone
To mark the milestone introduction of the antelope at Serenity Hills, local artist Keith Gait-Smith of K. Creative Arts Studio will display his intricate Wire Snare Antelope artwork. This stunning piece is created from 21 wire and cable snares he has personally collected on the farm where he resides. Visitors to the Serenity Hills Show House can view this incredible artwork and catch a glimpse of the latest residents on this eco-focused estate.
A New Standard for Coastal Living
With its focus on sustainable living, community engagement, and quality offerings, Serenity Hills is truly setting a new standard for coastal living on the KZN South Coast.
