The Sponsors of Brave campaign - eleventh nominee – Doctor John Michell from the Eastern Cape
Written by: MyPressportal Team Save to Instapaper
Meet Doctor John Michell who serves the communities in the rugged landscape near Mqanduli and Coffee Bay, Eastern Cape. John is always willing to go above and beyond despite the risk and this is why the local community call him a hero and an angel.
While Michell pioneered blood donation at the Zithulele Hospital, this isn't why the local community calls him a hero and an angel.
In March 2019 protests in the area cut off the roads giving access to the nearby Nzulwini clinic. Knowing the clinic was in need of supplies, Michell did not hesitate to pack 25kgs of medication on his back and take on the tumultuous off-road trek to the clinic. He journeyed through the hills, valleys, and swam a river to help deliver the much-needed medication and antiretrovirals and to tend to the 120 or more patients depending on him that day.
