In today’s fast-paced and uncertain world, many people are experiencing heightened levels of Stress, Anxiety, and emotional distress.
Growing Emotional Strain in Uncertain Times
From personal challenges to global events, it is increasingly common for individuals to feel emotionally stretched and unsure of how to cope.
The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) will host its next free online “Ask the Expert” LIVE session on Friday, 10 April, featuring SADAG Board Chairperson and Clinical Psychologist, Dr Colinda Linde on Emotional Regulation.
Understanding Emotional Regulation
This important session, titled “When Feelings Feel Too Big: Simple Ways to Stay Calm and in Control,” will focus on emotional regulation, an important skill in managing Stress, Anxiety, and overwhelming emotions.
Dr Colinda Linde explains, “Right now, many people are carrying a heavy emotional load. It is completely normal to feel overwhelmed, stressed, or emotionally exhausted, given everything happening in our lives and in the world. Emotional regulation is not about suppressing feelings, but about understanding them and learning how to respond in a healthy, constructive way. This session aims to give people simple, practical tools they can use in everyday moments, whether for themselves, their children, or those around them.”
Accessible Support Through Live Sessions
The LIVE session will be streamed via SADAG’s Facebook page (@TheSADAG), making it accessible to anyone, anywhere, particularly individuals who may not have the time or financial resources to obtain professional Mental Health support.
During the LIVE session, Dr Linde will share:
Practical tools to manage overwhelming emotionsSimple techniques to stay calm in stressful momentsWays to support emotional wellbeing in families, children, and workplaces
This session is designed to be practical, relatable, and immediately useful, helping individuals build skills they can apply in real-life situations.
Bridging the Mental Health Support Gap
SADAG’s “Ask the Expert” series forms part of its ongoing commitment to making Mental Health support accessible, inclusive, and stigma-free.
By offering free, expert-led sessions online, SADAG continues to bridge the gap for those who may not otherwise have access to professional guidance.
SADAG’s Call Center Supervisor, Olwethu Kwaza, says, “We get thousands of calls each day from people all across the country - different races, ages, genders - who are feeling stressed, traumatised, anxious, worried, desperate and overwhelmed. This Facebook LIVE session is open to the public for free and will share free practical tools to help manage emotions in challenging times. Something that so many people could benefit from right now - if not for themselves, then definitely for someone in their homes, workplaces, schools, communities or churches. These are skills we could all benefit from because when feelings feel too big, you don’t have to manage them alone.”
