Melrose Arch Mammography Highlights Accredited Breast Imaging in July

Melrose Arch Mammography, the breast imaging centre based at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg, is drawing attention to the full range of diagnostic services it offers as the year passes its halfway mark in July.
The practice provides internationally accredited breast imaging under one roof, and it is encouraging women across Johannesburg to treat the middle of the year as a natural moment to plan a check.
A routine Breast Examination forms the starting point for much of the work carried out at the centre, and the practice has built its services around making that process thorough, comfortable and clinically sound.
A Mammogram remains the core screening tool, and Melrose Arch Mammography combines it with breast ultrasound and biopsy capability so that findings can be investigated properly rather than deferred to another facility.
A Single Centre For Breast Imaging
The centre offers mammography, ultrasound and biopsy in the same location, along with stereotactic biopsy, cancer cryoablation, bone density scans, body composition scans and scar management massage.
Bringing these services together means that a woman who arrives for screening can often have any follow-up imaging or sampling handled without being referred elsewhere.
For patients, that continuity reduces both the waiting and the uncertainty that can come with a breast health concern.
Melrose Arch Mammography is the only practice in the country offering cancer cryoablation, and it works alongside multidisciplinary breast cancer teams throughout Johannesburg.
That connection to wider clinical teams matters because breast care rarely ends at the imaging stage, and results often need to be read in the context of a broader treatment plan.
Accreditation That Sets The Standard
The practice was the first internationally accredited breast imaging unit in Africa, and it remains the sole unit in South Africa to hold American College of Radiology gold seal accreditation.
That accreditation has been earned across several disciplines, including mammography in 2017, MRI in 2018, stereotactic biopsy in 2020 and breast ultrasound in 2021.
In 2022 the centre was designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.
Accreditation of this kind is not a one-off achievement.
It reflects standards in equipment, image quality, reporting and patient safety that have to be maintained over time.
For women choosing where to have their imaging done, it offers a clear and independent measure of the quality behind the service.
Experience Behind The Imaging
The practice is led by Dr Peter Schoub, Diagnostic Radiologist and Managing Director, who obtained the European Diploma of Breast Imaging in 2018 and serves as an honorary lecturer in radiology at the University of the Witwatersrand.
That teaching role keeps the practice close to current thinking in the field and reinforces the clinical depth behind each reading.
Regular Mammograms continue to be one of the most reliable ways to detect changes in breast tissue early, and the value of a consistent screening habit is well established.
By offering screening and the diagnostic steps that may follow within a single accredited centre, Melrose Arch Mammography aims to make that habit easier to keep.
As the second half of the year begins, the centre is reminding women in Johannesburg that booking a breast check does not need to wait for a symptom or a scare.
A mid-year appointment is a straightforward way to stay on top of breast health while diaries are still open.
