Buckle Up Your Bar Spoon - We’re Taking The Road to Manhattan
Written by: Tatum Bessick Save to Instapaper
As the temperatures dip, our taste buds lean into bold, comforting flavours that linger. It’s the time for slow pours, cosy catchups, and cocktails that bring both depth and a little drama. The Road to Manhattan does just that — a daring, bittersweet twist on the classic Manhattan, this serve is tailor-made for cool-weather sipping and fireside moments worth savouring.
Where the original Manhattan leans purely into boldness, The Road to Manhattan adds nuance and spice, thanks to the distinct complexity of ANGOSTURA® bitters. A few strategic dashes of ANGOSTURA® cocoa bitters introduce a deep, aromatic layer that plays beautifully with the warmth of bourbon and the sweetness of vermouth. It’s a drink that evolves as you sip, making it ideal for slower nights and unhurried conversations.
The addition of cocoa bitters is key. Its nutty, dark chocolate flavour complements the richness of bourbon, while orange bitters can add a bright twist for those who want a touch of citrus in their serve. Whether you’re entertaining or simply winding down at the end of the day, The Road to Manhattan delivers a seasonal upgrade to a timeless favourite.
The Road to Manhattan
Served in a coupe or on the rocks, this cocktail brings layered flavour to winter gatherings — without needing elaborate prep or ingredients. It’s the perfect example of how ANGOSTURA® bitters transforms a familiar cocktail into something new.
RECIPE 30 ml Dark Rum 30 ml Campari 15 ml Butlers Ginger Liqueur 2 dashes ANGOSTURA® cocoa bitters
METHOD
Add all of the ingredients into a mixing glass, add ice, stir and strain over a large ice block into a double Old-Fashioned glass.
As we lean into the rhythm of winter, this is the kind of cocktail that reminds us to slow down and savour the moment.
