Halfway’s #JourneyMade celebrates community heroes around South Africa

Landy Yeatman wipes away tears as she is met with applause at Halfway Toyota Fourways. She is presented with a R5000 cheque for People4Purpose, a non-profit organisation she started in order to help those in need within her community. From the dealership she sets off on a mystery journey with her partner and daughter - they know where they are going but for Yeatman it’s a surprise. They arrive at a magnificent game lodge in the bush. As they are about to climb into the game viewing vehicle Landy gets an even bigger surprise – the Halfway team have flown in her daughter, whom Landy hasn’t seen in a year, from Thailand.
The video of her #JourneyMade can be viewed here – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGBzflgEJ-M
The video is testament to the appreciation Halfway has for Yeatman’s contribution to her community. She is part of Halfway’s new campaign of awarding a journey to heroes within our communities. The heroes who make life’s journey better. As the campaign rolls out on radio and social media, more heroes will be showcased and rewarded.
Landy Yeatman – Community Hero
Landy Yeatman is the first of Halfway’s community heroes. Four years ago she was diagnosed with Stage 3B Her2 breast cancer and it was on the journey to recovery that her initiative - People4Purpose - was born. People4Purpose is a non-profit organisation that focuses on assisting less-fortunate families with basic necessities. During her cancer journey she received assistance, love and support and wanted to pay it forward by helping others. When Level 5 lockdown was announced during 2020’s Covid pandemic she reached out to the Randburg community for assistance in helping families in need. The community stepped up and rallied forth to help. They did not forget Yeatman nor her service to the community and voted for her as one of Randburg Sun’s community heroes.
Landy’s guiding compass is kindness, courage, and the empowerment of women. She saw how the pandemic left many women-headed households unemployed, so she empowers them with skills so they are able to care for their families.
Now, for her continued work through People4Purpose, she is being recognised as a hero beyond her Randburg community through the Halfway campaign.
Kevin Crowie, Dealer Principal of Halfway Toyota Fourways says, “At Halfway, every moment is an opportunity to be better and do more. Whether it’s servicing your car or helping you find a new one, we go the extra mile to ensure your journey keeps getting better. Yeatman took her cancer journey and turned it into an opportunity to do better. Like our team, she goes the extra mile for the people in her community and it was important for us to acknowledge her courage.”
Halfway celebrates community heroes with #JourneyMade
Halfway believes in supporting and helping their communities. They are guided by a common compass – “to be better than our best, every day”. This philosophy extends to their social responsibility campaigns and leads to memorable experiences and an exceptional journey.
Vote for your #JourneyMade community hero by tuning into 947 in Gauteng, East Coast Radio across Kwazulu-Natal and KFM in the Western Cape throughout the month of October.
