Funky fashion with Africa Made Only
Submitted by: Megan Jonkers
Funky, locally produced fashion is what Africa Made Only is all about and now you can get yours at Bay Harbour Market in Hout Bay!
The inspiration for their designs comes from locally sourced fabrics such as shweshwe and wax prints. This summer African Made Only have launched shweshwe accented t-shirts made from left over fabric as part of their zero-waste program, and they will soon be offering beach shorts that complement their new t-shirt designs.
Founded in 2018 by Ryan Amory and now co-owned by Paddy Pearson, Africa Made Only was established with the belief that everything that can be made locally should be. The business began through a friendship with a tailor and a shared passion for locally made clothing. Each piece is sewn by local tailors and seamstresses using ethically sourced fabrics from all over Africa. The main aim being to work with local talent in a sustainable way. Currently, Africa Made Only is working with seamstresses from Bishop Lavis to create larger orders through a co-opted collective based in Wynberg.
To get your hands on funky hoodies, peak caps, t-shirts and shorts for adults and kids, visit Bay Harbour Market. Regretfully no pets allowed at the market.
