About Soekershof:The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science" - Albert Einstein
Soekershof; Private Mazes & Gardens in South Africa is in the first place what a garden should be; a place of calmness, relaxation and contemplation. This unique place in Klaas Voogds West, 10 kilometres East of Robertson in the Western Cape, is not designated for mass tourism but for people who can enjoy Life in a slow pace.
Don’t expect the banter of restaurants, coffee corners, craft shops but a 'Down-to-Earth' experience ‘Pure from the Heart’. And people who think that a garden and a maze visit is boring have never been at Soekershof. It's hugely entertaining with local folklore, flower tasting and other unexpected surprises. The average well prepared visitor stays 3 to 4 hours and the owners don't mind if you take your own picnic with you. In short: Soekershof is the breeding place of the South African cactus trade (cactus pioneer Marthinus Malherbe and his wife are buried in one the the gardens) and the succulent gardens houses the largest outdoor succulent plant collection (around 2500 different species from all continents) in South Africa and all plants, including the ones in the own nursery, are organically cultivated without the use of chemicals.
The Klaas Voogds Maze (over 4 km of pathways) distinghuises itself by visualised local folklore; as orientating beacons towering above the hedges and invites you continuously to find the next story and even to make up your own. And yes you have to find the artifacts of a cycling Dutchman and a womanising German. You leave with a smile in your heart and a souvenir in your pocket.
Soekershof is an ideal venue for family outings, group outings, horticultural/botanical educationals, garden clubs, photo & film shooting, school outings, teambuilding, night adventures, weddings, active functions, etc. The website http://soekershof.com provides you with detailed information including precise road directions, times, admission fees and accommodation in the area with a consistent good quality in their own market segment. Soekershof's nursery website http://soekershof.wordpress.com contains guidelines for the own nursery customers of soekershof and other succulent lovers around the globe.
