Orange is the new green with Husqvarna’s clean team

Mkondeni, Pietermaritzburg. On Thursday 26th November 2015, outdoor power product company Husqvarna South Africa decided to get their hands (or at least their gloves) dirty by cleaning up the vacant lot next to their building at a busy intersection in the industrial district of Pietermaritzburg.

On the corner of Washington Road and Market Road, this plot is a highly visible location but sadly, it acts as a dump site for passers-by. Part of Husqvarna Group’s vision is to play a role in creating a world where people can enjoy well maintained gardens, parks and forests. Managing Director of Husqvarna South Africa, Dylan Lane, feels strongly that it is our collective responsibility to look after the neighbourhoods where we live, work and play.

Rather than wait for someone else to clear up the litter, he decided to orchestrate a mass clean-up involving all of the staff in the building by initially cutting back the overgrown grass using Husqvarna brushcutters and then picking up the exposed litter and bagging it to cart away to the dump.  The initiative was welcomed by the staff who were proud to be involved in a community upliftment project of this kind.
