When the Engen Refinery, based in Durban South spoke to community members and found out that there was a dire need for JoJo Tanks at schools in the area, they immediately went to work.
Engen identified schools based in and around the Merebank, Wentworth and Austerville areas and contracted a local plumber to install 2 200 Litre JoJo Tanks at 17 schools. Adhila Hamdulay, Engen’s CSI Manager says it is important for Engen to actively support and take care of the communities in which the company operates, especially in a drought prone country such as South Africa.
“Water conservation is a reality for every South African and the mindset of saving every drop needs to start at our schools. “Harvesting rainwater lets nature do the job by ensuring that there is a constant supply of water on hand.
This water can be used in bathrooms, to irrigate food gardens and for outside maintenance of school facilities.” All 17 tanks have been installed and are currently in use at the following schools: Collingwood Primary Gardenia PrimarySettlers PrimarySt Mary’s Primary Merebank Secondary School Parsee Rustomjee Primary School Junagarth Rd, Primary School Ganges Secondary School Alipore Primary School Austerville Primary School Wentworth Secondary School Durban East Primary School Wentworth Secondary School Fairvale Secondary School Umbilo Secondary Schoo lAssegai Primary Schoo lP.R.
