On Monday the Lourens River in Strand and Liesbeek River outside the city burst their banks. Floods also hit suburbs such as Newlands, Rondebosch, Claremont, as well as Somerset West and large areas of the Cape Flats.
According to the city's disaster management team, Sunday recorded the second-highest rainfall in a twenty-four hour period in July since recording started in 1957.
As the adverse weather conditions are set to continue, the less fortunate are hardest hit. But there are lots of ways to help weather the storm. Donations of food, clothes and blankets are desperately needed in the worst hit areas. GreaterGood South Africa has identified drop off points from causes registered on their giving network: myggsa.co.za.
