United Kingdom awarded title of Enactus World Champion at first Enactus World Cup on African soil.
Submitted by: Linda ThompsonJohannesburg, South Africa, – 3,500 present and future world leaders met from 14 – 16 October at the Enactus World Cup to showcase entrepreneurial excellence and shared innovation that transforms lives and creates a better more sustainable world over three unforgettable days of competition, collaboration and celebration. Host country, South Africa, represented by the University of Zululand, advanced to the closely contested Semi-Final round from which, four university teams progressed to the final round with the team from the United Kingdom, represented by the University of Southampton announced as the 2015 Enactus World Champion.
A highlight of this world-class event included a riveting talk by the distinguished Chairperson of the African Union, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma on Wednesday evening’s opening ceremony calling for all students of the world to become members of Enactus. Dlamini-Zuma urged business leaders to focus upon Women’s Economic Empowerment and to assist youth business to grow and be sustainable as global development is dependent upon the youth.
Enactus recognised the immense impact made by leading South African business leaders and philanthropists, Patrice Motsepe & Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe to advance the social entrepreneurship agenda by jointly awarding them with the 2015 Enactus Entrepreneurial Spirit Award which Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe received on behalf of her and her husband, Patrice. Earlier on Friday afternoon, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe had actively participated in the Action Leaders forum on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of Women’s Economic Empowerment communicating her believe that Women’s Economic Empowerment is a prerequisite for sustainable development and should be at the centre of all social impact programmes.
The Enactus World Cup included live performances to celebrate the diverse culture of host country, South Africa with a revival performance of Richard Loring’s acclaimed African Footprint as well as the accomplished Soweto Gospel Choir that drove thousands of students from over 36 countries to their feet.
