Skaap skop, skiet en donner Telkom with free overseas calls at Easter
Written by: Skaap Save to Instapaper{pp}The Easter hunt is on and there’s very little to be found in the way of treasure from Telkom for those with family and loved ones overseas. No chocolate eggs secreted in vandalised telephone boxes or any special Easter discounts on calls. Their ‘Closer’ option however, would appear to be a move in the right direction. Inadvertently, it would seem, Telkom have boosted a competitor’s business with the introduction of their ‘Closer’ packages.
Skaap’s Managing Director Andrew Davies explains, “The Telkom ‘Closer’ packages have really made using Skaap even more cost effective. With the ‘Closer’ free calls to 08600 numbers, accessing Skaap is free. An 85% saving using Skaap to call overseas is enabling our users to make longer and more frequent calls”.The desire for low-cost overseas calls from South Africa has always been prevalent amongst those whose family and friends have either relocated or are away on holiday. Third-world country excuses are no longer satisfying the SA consumer and the perceived monopoly of Telkom is slowly ebbing away. It is an indictment of this telecoms behemoth that a company like Skaap is able to exploit its shortfalls and some would say greed.Following on from Skaap’s successful free calls bonanza over the New Year period, they have decided to run a similar event over the Easter holidays. So from 6:00pm on the 5th of April 2007 until midnight 0n the 9th of April 2007 all overseas calls to landlines using Skaap to the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and USA landlines will be free of charge. The only charge will be the purchase of R50 or more airtime which can be used after the promotion period.“Either using your free ‘Closer’ minutes or your free cell phone minutes, Skaap overseas calls to landlines will be free during the holiday period. There are 3 ways that customers can register for this holiday special: Signing up online, by calling our Skaap Customer Service Team directly on 021 761 2198 or by smsing their name to 076 989 0855”, Davies adds.Together with their newly revamped website at www.skaap.com, Skaap have thrown down the gauntlet to Telkom once again.
