Medshield announces dynamic additions
Written by: Medshield Save to Instapaper [Pressportal.co.za] Medshield, one of South Africa’s largest medical aid schemes, today announces an average rate increase of just 7% - almost half of the average increase across all schemes, which is expected to reach 13%. Medshield has evolved into a serious private sector healthcare contender, and its basket of new, highly competitive products for the year ahead boasts revolutionised, easy-to-understand and comprehensive options for every South African, including a new hospital plan.
Peter Moyanga, Medshield Chairman comments, “We believe that this 7% rate increase is a prudent rise, enabling us to consistently offer excellent medical aid benefits that are affordable to our members.” He continues, “We are proud of the evolution we’ve undergone as a scheme, initially operating with a key focus on the government sector and now offering carefully designed and thoughtfully tailored products for the private sector.” In terms of this evolution, Medshield was awarded the second highest possible rating for its claim paying ability (AA-) by Global Credit Ratings Agency. The scheme was commended for its sizeable and well-diversified investment portfolio and its sound liquidity levels. Moreover, the scheme has doubled production since the inception of its revised options and benefits, competitive pricing and customer focused service. These key signs of health, together with the scheme’s exciting new product range spell extremely good news for the road ahead. Introduction of new hospital plan: HospiElite One of Medshield’s highlights this year is the introduction of an all-inclusive in-hospital benefit plan, HospiElite. With an overall limit of R1 million, this plan will provide cover for a whole new section of the population. HospiElite is ideal for the younger, healthy market as well as middle-aged South Africans who are not yet retired and no longer have dependants. Effectively targeting low-income market with Access In a move to enhance it’s offering to the important low-income market, Medshield has unveiled the new version of Access, now offering a non-capitated healthcare network to those opting for this highly competitive option. Access has moved to the Yarona network, giving it a more efficient network of 7, 500 private doctors and access to leading pharmacy chains. With an overall annual limit of R500, 000 and providing members with essential routine benefits, non-government unions and a large portion of the South African public will benefit from this plan. The dependable option for much of the healthcare market, MediValue Comprising a consolidation of MediBase and MediValue, the new MediValue is described by Moyanga as the dependable option for much of the healthcare market. He comments, “For those people looking for a solid, family-focused medical aid plan that provides exceptional benefits at exceptional value for money, I would strongly advise that you check this one out.” MediPlus: an attractive, generous option for many MediPlus has absorbed MediBase to form a comprehensive, traditional option with an overall annual limit of R750 000, providing extensive in-hospital benefits and increased chronic medication benefits, in addition to routine benefits. MediPlus has significantly higher benefit limits than MediValue. This is a great option for families with members with dependants that have average to high medical expenses. New MediBonus offers unrivalled comprehensive cover MediBonus has merged with MediElite to form a comprehensive, traditional option with no overall annual limit. MediBonus provides excellent benefits for surgical procedures done in and out of hospital. This option also has an extraordinary maternity benefit providing comprehensive cover for in- and out-of-hospital maternity events. Higher income earning families and those with the greatest medical needs will not find a more inclusive medical plan. Moyanga concludes, “Extensive market research conducted among Medshield members has revealed the need for uncomplicated scheme options that meet each member’s every need. In other words, simplification of the decision-making process for members, matched with versatility to cater for the cross-section of lifestyles that suit one particular plan. This we have finally achieved.” “We therefore believe that every South African seeking healthcare cover is catered for by one of our well-diversified products,” Moyanga adds, “and at a competitive price too.” Contact Details Name : Elizabeth Senger Company : Medshield Phone :021 425 7111 Email : This email address is being protected from spambots.
