Workplace Fraud Surge Spurs SA Companies to Modernise Reception
Written by: ATG Digital Save to Instapaper
South African companies are seeing a sharp spike in attempted site impersonations and security breaches. At the same time, strict data privacy rules (including the Protection of Personal Information Act, POPIA) have made it clear that outdated paper logbooks can no longer protect businesses or their visitors.
ATG Digital is answering these urgent challenges with “At Reception,” a digital visitor management system designed to prevent fraud, ensure compliance, and give guests a professional welcome.
In 2025, commercial crime rose by 8% affecting a wide range of businesses through theft and diverse types of fraud, including unauthorised access and impersonation (Bolwa). ATG Digital reports attribute such cases to inadequate front-desk controls and “blind spot” visitor access.
“As fraud gets more sophisticated, companies need more than a sign-in book,” says Ariel Flax, Head of Sales at ATG Digital. “They need instant alerts, real-time visitor tracking, and airtight data protection. That’s what ‘At Reception’ delivers.”
ATG Digital’s solution puts compliance and security first. The system pre-registers expected guests, sends QR code invites, and captures identity information as people arrive. It monitors who is on the premises minute-by-minute and provides instant employee notifications and roll call features for emergencies. All data is securely stored and fully POPIA-compliant.
Across South Africa, businesses in finance, technology, property, and industrial sectors are shifting to digital visitor management, citing fraud risk, legal pressure, and workplace flexibility.
Flax adds: “The real story is that visitor management is now about protecting people and data, not just checking names. We’re seeing that shift in every new deployment.”
