[Pressportal.co.za] Fedhealth, one of South Africa’s largest remaining independent medical schemes once again has shown that innovation is the name of the game and come to the rescue of people who have suffered a cardiac event. According to Fedhealth CEO, Jeremy Yatt, Fedhealth have teamed up with Professors Wayne Derman and Martin Schwellnus of the Sports Science Institute in Cape Town and developed a holistic treatment campaign and interestingly it’s not based on the fact that the cardiac event is a disability.
The 12 week treatment campaign is a holistic programme that uses exercise as a medicine, and incorporates nutrition and anxiety management. All of which have shown to drastically reduce the likelihood of a recurrence of the cardiac event. And what makes this programme more attractive to members is that the funds are drawn from the risk portion of the contributions and not from the savings element. The programme is co-funded with the member, who initially lays out 20% of the cost. When the member completes the programme the scheme will reimburse the 20%. The initial co-payment is designed to encourage the member to complete the programme as the health benefits are significant. Yatt explains that this is the first medically directed exercise progamme which is aimed at reducing the likelihood of a re-occurrence of the cardio incident by managing stress. A medical doctor is always in attendance as is a bio- kineticist. While the programme will initially only be available in Cape Town and Johannesburg it will in due course be rolled out nationally.Contact Details:Angelo Coppolawww.fanews.co.za
