Chubb’s Group Personal Accident Cover now includes XTRALINK

Submitted by: Teresa Settas

The functionality and progress of any company is tied to the prosperity and wellbeing of its employees.

According to Allan Bader, Head of Accident & Health at Chubb South Africa, a comprehensive group personal accident solution is critical to keeping a company’s progress on track and its employees covered for any unexpected event. “Not only are you providing your employees with additional benefits to support them before and after a personal accident, but you are also conveying a very clear message that they are important to the business and their role is valued.”

Comprehensive group personal accident coverage is critical to organisations that rely on the skills and acumen of staff membersin the daily operation of their business. The cover provides financial support to staff members in the event of an accident, and is available around the clock, all year round, anywhere in the world.

Chubb has taken its group personal accident cover a step further to include the services of XTRALINK for added peace of mind. XTRALINK provides services related to claims or actions relating to:

  • The next-of-kin of an insured person - KINLINK
  • Claiming from the Road Accident Fund (RAF) – RAFLINK
  • Events related to the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases (COID) Act- COIDLINK

KINLINK

While family and friends can help organise a funeral, it isn’t easy to find clear guidelines on the legal and financial process to follow when a loved one dies. KINLINK aims to simplify the matter by providing the next-of-kin of an insured person with a step-by-step guide to the winding up of a deceased estate relative to the size and complexity of the estate. It includes the documents necessary to report a death and the details of a deceased estate to the Master of the High Court.

RAFLINK

Dealing with the Road Accident Fund (RAF) can be an onerous task, which is why RAFLINK is included in Chubb’s XTRALINK offering to help employees in the event of a valid Road Accident Fund (RAF) claim. It includes litigation on behalf of claimants against the RAF, where necessary. RAFLINK provides the following legal and claims services at no cost to the insured:

  • Funeral expenses.
  • Past and future medical expenses.
  • Loss of past income.
  • Loss of support of a breadwinner.

Some claims against the RAF can be extensive and support is provided on a contingency basis, which equates to 10% of the claim value paid by the RAF. These include:

  • Funding of specialist costs to support claims.
  • Loss of future income.
  • General damages.

“The contingency fee provides RAFLINK with the means to pursue and maximise loss of future income, and general damages claims on behalf of claimants,” says Bader. “These are generally the highest claims by value and the most complex and expensive to prove, requiring specialist support and often litigation against the RAF. RAFLINK funds the costs, often running into hundreds of thousands of Rands, on behalf of a claimant. If the claim is successful, RAFLINK recovers the costs from the proceeds of the claim. If the claim is unsuccessful, RAFLINK receives no payment,” Bader explains.

COIDLINK

The Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases (COID) Act (Act 130 of 1993) aims to provide compensation in the case of disablement caused by occupational injuries and diseases, sustained or contracted by employees in the course of their employment, or death resulting from such injuries and diseases; and to provide for connected matters.

“When an employee sustains an injury at work or contracts an occupational disease at work, COIDLINK provides the insured person with a simple step-by-step guide to claiming compensation from the Compensation Fund. It includes the documentation necessary to claim and is provided in an easy-to-understand format,” says Bader.

HOW IT WORKS

The XTRALINK services included in Chubb’s group personal accident solution are delivered via an online website that provides educational content, frequently asked questions and valuable resources on the RAF and COID. It also elaborates on the importance of having a will and the process to follow to wind up a deceased estate.

“XTRALINK’s easy-to-use format means that an insured person has access to all the information they need to address any of these challenges at their own pace. Dealing with an injury, disease or loss of life is traumatic without navigating a maze of information that makes no sense. Services such as KINLINK and COIDLINK are provided via a self-service portal. If there are any hiccups along the way, a call centre is on standby, or you can email them to help make these processes as easy as possible,” Bader adds.
