Chair and Vice-Chairs of the ACA Board of Directors for 2017/2018 Announced

The Association for Communication and Advertising (ACA) today announced that Boniswa Pezisa has been elected to the position of Chair of the ACA Board following a special meeting of its Board of Directors held on Thursday 27th July 2017.  Gareth Leck, Thabang Skwambane and Paul Middleton were elected as Vice Chairs of the Board.

The ACA Exco plays a key role in working closely with the Board of Directors and CEO of the Association in collectively directing the association’s affairs, whilst attending to the interests of its stakeholders, members and the broader industry at large. The Exco’s tenure runs in tandem with that of the Board of Directors announced on the 13th July 2017 for the 2017/2018 fiscal period.

Pezisa is Group CEO at BBDO South Africa and held the position of Vice Chair on the ACA Board in the preceding period.  A committed industry player, she has served on the ACA Board for many years and sits on various boards within the communication industry, Corporates, NGO’s and is a Past Chair-Person of the Loeries Board.

On her election, Pezisa says, “I am humbled by the honour of being elected to Chair of the ACA Board and to serve the profession at large with respect to its commercial and transformational interests.  As a profession, we are the face of the brands we market, and an extension of our client’s marketing departments. Rather, a big responsibility from a social, commercial and economic point of view. As an industry body we are committed to ensure that are members always act and deliver with integrity at all times. As a voluntary body, it is important that we hold each other accountable for our actions, therefore as a new board we have the responsibility to build on the foundation laid by the previous board whilst ensuring that we guide the industry to evolve in line with both market and the country’s needs.  This we will do by finessing and implementing policies and decisions that will take the industry and the profession at large to the next level. “

Gareth Leck is Group Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Joe Public United. Gareth currently sits on a number of boards including the ACA and the Loerie Awards and has been Chairperson of the APEX awards for the last seven years.

Thabang Skwambane is the Managing Director of FCB Joburg. Thabang is a well-known social entrepreneur and businessman.  His goal at FCB is to make a positive contribution to clients’ businesses while never losing sight of the challenges facing this country, and doing what we can do to make it a better place.

Paul Middleton is the MD of Ebony+Ivory, an agency he has led since 1989. Paul has been a member of the ACA Board for a number of years, and has served on numerous sub committees. He has been instrumental in keeping the lines of communication open between the ACA and other industry organisations in recent years.

The next meeting of the ACA Board of Directors is scheduled for September 2017.
