Hygiene Heroes Launches to Champion Cleaning Quality and Safety in South African Businesses

Johannesburg, South Africa – 25 September 2025
A bold new movement, Hygiene Heroes, has launched to raise hygiene standards across South Africa, calling on businesses to prioritise quality cleaning over short-term cost-cutting. Backed by a network of industry advocates, the initiative addresses a pressing concern: the widespread use of low-grade equipment, chemicals, and machines that compromise safety, durability, and trust.
Hygiene Heroes believes that quality equals safety, longevity, and customer confidence. When businesses opt for cheap, substandard products, they face higher maintenance costs, more downtime, and increased health and safety risks. The movement is committed to showing companies that investing in the right tools and processes today leads to stronger, more sustainable business performance tomorrow.
“Investing in the right equipment, chemicals, and hygiene processes is not just good practice – it’s good business,” says Gregory Venter, ex-Managing Director of Goscor Cleaning Equipment and one of the key Hygiene Heroes advocates. “By making smart, quality-driven choices, businesses can protect their teams, safeguard customer trust, and avoid the hidden costs that come with poor-quality solutions.”
Key Pillars of the Hygiene Heroes Movement
- Industry Education: Providing articles, workshops, and easy-to-follow guides on best hygiene practices, tailored for different sectors.
- Quality Advocacy: Promoting reliable suppliers and proven solutions that meet rigorous safety and performance standards.
- Business Support Network: Connecting like-minded leaders who believe in quality-first thinking, enabling shared learning and collaboration.
- Awareness Campaigns: Engaging the public and industry to highlight the link between quality hygiene and healthier, safer spaces.
Hygiene Heroes draws its strength from passionate advocates across industries – from cleaning and hospitality to manufacturing and healthcare – who share one mission: to build a culture where investing in long-term cleaning excellence becomes the norm. The movement has also found interest and alignment with sector bodies such as the National Contract Cleaners Association (NCCA) and the Cleaning Association of South Africa (CASA), who share its vision of raising industry standards.
Launch & Participation
Hygiene Heroes officially launched on 1 March 2025. Businesses of all sizes and sectors are invited to explore the resources, join the network, and commit to higher hygiene standards that benefit both people and the planet.
