Stellenbosch University to Host SACOMM Conference 2024

The Departments of Journalism and Visual Arts at Stellenbosch University are thrilled to host this year’s South African Communications Association (SACOMM) conference. Scheduled from 10-12 September 2024, the conference will centre on the theme The Politics of the Present, exploring the influence of place, positionality, and local contexts in communications research within South Africa and globally.  It will also investigate how historical events have shaped the present and the potential optimistic and pessimistic futures ahead.

For three days, the conference will feature presentations by scholars and experts in media and communications across various streams such as media studies, journalism, education, film, advocacy, and activism. These presentations will critically examine the current perspectives and politics of media texts, institutions, practices, and technologies, all of which guide and influence communications research.

Academics, emerging scholars, researchers, students, and professionals in the field of media and communications are invited to register, listen to, and engage with the presentations. Registrations and payments are now open and will close on 23 August 2024. Please register here.
