Light the Night walk set to illuminate Johannesburg
Submitted by: MyPressportal Team Save to InstapaperThe Light the Night inaugural walk will light up the sky on Thursday, 9 July 2015 when 5000 community activists take to the streets of Rosebank in aid of SHOUT for a Safer South Africa. Funds raised will be used to build a container library in Alexandra Township.
Danny K, co-founder of SHOUT says; “Our mantra here at SHOUT is: If we don’t educate, we will never eradicate the need to incarcerate.”“There are three libraries that SHOUT has financed and built through the generosity of South Africans in Limpopo Province, Mitchells Plain and Freedom Park, Soweto. The impact on the lives of the children and the community is immense and allows for improvement all round in terms of their upliftment and social cohesion,” says Danny K. “Nothing can be of more importance than to ensure that our children are given the best opportunity to live as productive South Africans in a country that is free of crime and corruption. However this is not something a few people can do on their own, it is a task which requires the involvement of all South Africans and Light the Night is a fun and social way for the community to get involved.”The walk will start at 18:00 on Thursday, 9 July in Bath Avenue outside the Rosebank Mall in Johannesburg. Equipped with torches to light up the night, walkers will wind their way through the surrounding suburb to end in Craddock Avenue before moving onto the well-known Rosebank Rooftop for a celebration with several SHOUT Ambassadors, local opinion leaders and the community. The project has been endorsed by Crimeline.Danny K concludes; “Our generation must do whatever it takes to facilitate this and we are all accountable to our children. Let us be the lamplighters that shine a light on the path to education that our children must walk and be there to hold their hands with our unconditional love and support. This is our plea to everyone. Thank you for supporting our project.”Light the Night is a LD Events initiative and is made possible with the generosity of many partners and sponsors including SHOUT, Crimeline, Octagon, Lodge Security and Events, Rosebank Mall, Cavaleros, Mibern Medi-Call, Breadline, TCH Bonisa, Retailab, Planet Fitness, Rebsons, BBDO, Alive Advertising, Presto Electrical, The Solutions Team and Trace Elements.Entries can be found here and cost R150 per person. For more information, connect with them on Facebook.
