ITHUBA Holdings Embarks On A Roadshow Delivering Homes To People In Need
Written by: Charmaine Mabuza Save to Instapaper"Thina abase ITHUBA, sinizwile, ngaloko, sizile kulo suku, sini lethele izindlu, lapha nizo hlala khona. —As ITHUBA, we have heard your cries, and we are here today, on this day, to give you houses where you will be staying."
These words capture the vision of ITHUBA Holdings, South Africa's National Lottery operator, and its CEO, Ms Charmaine Mabuza, expressed during a handover event in response to the Kwazulu-Natal floods. ITHUBA is taking this promise further, delivering homes to people across the country. We invite the media to virtually follow our five-day journey as we hand over keys to beneficiaries.
Many South Africans still don't enjoy the safety of a space they can call their own. The record floods that devastated communities in Kwazulu-Natal brought this reality into stark focus. Reports from affected areas are heart-wrenching. Countless people have lost houses of which they were the first proud owners or homes passed down in their families. Many no longer have their possessions. Numerous people mourn the loss of family members, such as grandparents swept away in the deluge.
ITHUBA delivered new homes to affected families. Yet we also recognise that this issue extends beyond the flood-ravaged areas. Disadvantaged people across SA have lost homes to disasters such as fire and theft. Returning to the drawing board after visiting KZN, Ms Mabuza understood that communities would need more than just food to return to their everyday lives.
To make this difference, ITHUBA has identified beneficiaries and constructed houses for them. During a multi-provincial roadshow from 05 December 2022 to 09 December 2022, the ITHUBA team will travel to several communities in Mpumalanga, Gauteng and the rest of KwaZulu Natal, handing over home keys to their new owners.
We invite the media to participate virtually in our roadshow and walk the journey with us. ITHUBA will release daily content, including press kits containing audio, video and pictures, showcasing the efforts to give more South Africans a home they can call their own.
The houses will be handed over to their new owners through a five-day roadshow:
5th of December - Mpumalanga (Mbombela, Zwelisha, Kabokweni)6th of December - Gauteng (Hebron and Sasolburg)7th of December - KwaZulu Natal (Ntunzuma Rural Area and Kwamtethwa)8th of December - KwaZulu Natal (Molweni and Ndwedwe)9th of December - KwaZulu Natal (Hammersdale, KwaNdengezi A, Claremont and Emvundlweni)
"Every person deserves to have a roof over their head and a place they can call home. This is a big challenge for South Africans but one I believe we can overcome if we work together. At ITHUBA, we want to show people we are committed to improving their lives. We want to live the saying, 'umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu' - a person is a person because of other people. This proverb is a core value of my organisation and to me personally. Our roadshow is taking a few steps towards that vision of a better society. Every journey starts with a few steps, and we plan to take many more until the people most in need can enjoy the sense and safety of a home," says Ms Mabuza.
