?Urgent plea for help: Help the survivors of the Turkey earthquake.

In the early hours of 6 February 2023, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey and Syria. This was followed by another earthquake soon afterwards. Reports have put the death toll at more than 4300 people but it is expected that this number will rise and that there will be aftershocks.

The scale of destruction is vast. Following two big earthquakes and over 60 aftershocks, people are still in shock and fear, they don't even have time to mourn their loved ones. There are people, children and pets trapped beneath the rubble and many left homeless.

As nightly temperatures are expected to drop to zero degrees celsius. Shelter, food, water, clothing and medical care for those who have been affected are desperately needed.

Hope SA Foundation has been called upon by the Turkish Ambassador to respond to and provide aid to the survivors of this devastating earthquake. We are deploying team members and volunteers immediately to assist in the search and rescue mission, to collect & distribute resources and provide medical assistance. The Turkish Ambassador has urged international citizens and organisations to provide assistance where possible. Hope SA Foundation will be transported from South Africa to Turkey today via Turkish Airlines - which the Ambassador has facilitated.

It is currently freezing in Turkey as they are experiencing snow and rainfall - people are left without homes, clothing, food and support. It is a double tragedy for survivors to have to cope with the freezing temperatures and have to sleep outside after losing everything.
