Celebrating the Legacy of Nicolene Swanepoel

In honour and celebration of internationally acclaimed South African artist and sculptor Nicolene Swanepoel (1962 – 2016), the first solo exhibition of Nicolene’s work since her passing will take place in the Swartland at the beginning of November 2024. The exhibition aims to raise funds for causes she championed throughout her life.

Nicolene Swanepoel was a deeply passionate artist, celebrated for her immense love for animals and her dedication to her craft. She held three degrees: a Bachelor of Fine Arts (1983), a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (1991), and an MTech in Fine Arts, specialising in ceramics (2008).

Her artistic career gained international recognition, spanning various mediums including pastel, acrylic, and oil painting, as well as silkscreens and ceramics. Toward the later years of her life, Nicolene was renowned for her sculptural ceramic pieces, which showcased her love for animals and her profound understanding of their forms and behaviours.

Throughout her career, she received five awards for her collections, both locally and internationally, with many of her ceramics becoming highly sought-after collector's items.

While a more extensive retrospective is planned for 2025, this intimate exhibition will feature a curated selection of ceramic works discovered in Nicolene's studio after her passing. The serene Swartland setting will reflect the spirit of her work and allow visitors to immerse themselves in one of South Africa's most scenic regions.

This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to acquire one of Nicolene Swanepoel’s masterpieces and support a cause she was passionate about. A portion of the proceeds from sales will be donated to the Ek n Jy NPC's Animal Outreach Fund.
