HUAWEI’s new Crystal Armour Kunlun Glass Gives You the Freedom to Move More and Do More
How did HUAWEI achieve its Crystal Armour Kunlun Glass Display?
Studies show that 50% of smartphone after-sales maintenance cases are related to cracked or broken screens. A slight crack on the glass is often enough to require a repair and can even result in the entire screen, middle frame, and battery being replaced.
Because phones are used every day, in multiple scenarios, and are never far from our person, it stands to reason that the most frequent reasons for a shattered or scratched smartphone screen are accidental drops while walking, phones falling out of a pocket or an open bag, or when they’re accidentally knocked off an elevated surface (tables, countertops).
But for something that contains all the precious details of our lives or even the most crucial documents we need for work, it’s essential to protect smartphones from damage as much as possible. Users spend thousands of Rands adding the best screen protection or protective cases, some even scheduling their phones for regular maintenance.
For these reasons, brands like HUAWEI have set out to innovate glass technology that strives towards unbreakable quality, resulting in the development of the innovative Kunlun Glass.
The Origins of Kunlun Glass
After 4 years of development, HUAWEI’s engineers achieved a breakthrough in developing its very own glass material. By introducing nanocrystals during the glass production process and using a high-temperature heat process, the nanocrystals become fused with the glass to create a tougher and denser material. Thus, the Kunlun Glass was born.
Kunlun Glass was first introduced on the HUAWEI Mate 50 Series back in 2022. It was awarded a five-star glass drop resistance certification from Switzerland’s SGS, making HUAWEI the first smartphone brand ever to receive this certification. Since then, the technology has been further developed, and HUAWEI recently launched a new and improved second-generation technology.
A New Generation of Kunlun Glass Technology
Unsurprisingly, the recently released HUAWEI Pura 70 Series is fitted with this new generation of Kunlun Glass screens. Known as the Super Durable Kunlun Glass, it uses a formula that has gone through iterative upgrades to form a stronger glass that boosts drop resistance by 100%[1]. Adopted by the HUAWEI Pura 70 and HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro, the new Super Durable Kunlun Glass is stronger than ever, toughening the entire smartphone device. Meanwhile, the HUAWEI Pura 70 Ultra comes with the stronger-than-ever Crystal Armor Kunlun Glass, consisting of the Super Durable Kunlun Glass and a new Crystal Armor scratch-resistant technology.
The Crystal Armor Kunlun Glass is made through a basalt tempering technology, which uses innovative amorphous diamond carbon material that is highly transparent, stronger in hardness, and ultra-scratch resistant. The material, also known as Diamond-like Carbon (DLC), is a coating material with relatively high hardness. This was achieved by fusing the glass and glass coating through basalt tempering technology, resulting in a smooth exterior layer of protection with higher scratch resistance.
DLC is often used in devices for aerospace, high-end watches, precision medical equipment, industrial tools, engine pistons, and more, all which are required to be durable due to the nature of their use. When applied to a smartphone screen, the scratch resistance increases by 300%[2], allowing users to enjoy an even stronger material and durability on the HUAWEI Pura 70 Ultra.
Tried and Tested for Proven Performance and Strength
To put the new Crystal Armor Kunlun Glass to the test, the smartphone screen was put under numerous stress tests to prove its durability. The phone's surface was rubbed against keys, knives, nails and screwdrivers with no effect.
The Crystal Armor Kunlun Glass was also put through round after round of drop and steel ball tests, further proving its overall reliability. The verdict? These smartphones are equipped to withstand the wear and tear that usually arise from everyday scenarios, such as accidental drops during sports (cycling/jogging) or even an accidental slip while carrying too many items.
Suppose you want to ditch exorbitant screen protectors or bulky impact-absorbing smartphone cases. In that case, the HUAWEI Pura 70 Series’ new Kunlun Glass technology might be the best option, guaranteeing everyday assurance and the longevity of your smartphone.
