Segonyana Mall, the eagerly awaited new shopping destination in Kuruman, Northern Cape, opened its doors on Thursday, 27 November 2025. The opening of Segonyana Mall marked a major milestone in the retail landscape of Kuruman.
Developed by the Moolman Group, Segonyana Mall is a community-focused centre designed to provide a safe and convenient shopping experience that brings together national brands and essential services under one roof.
Construction of the mall began after a sod-turning ceremony on 2 December 2024, marking an exciting new chapter for the Kuruman community. This project reflects the Moolman Group’s ongoing commitment to helping the local area grow — creating jobs, supporting small businesses, and uplifting the community.
Strategically located at the corner of Tsening Road and Bree Street, directly opposite the main taxi rank, Segonyana Mall occupies approximately 11,000 square metres of retail space. The design prioritises accessibility and comfort, with single-level parking and comprehensive on site security.
Shoppers can look forward to anchor tenants such as Shoprite and Boxer, alongside household names such as Mr Price, Pep, Markhams, Sheet Street, Home Choice, Total Sports, Sportscene and Choice Clothing. With essentials such as Capitec Bank and Arrie Nel Pharmacy providing daily convenience, and local favourites like Roots Butchery and Boxer Liquor adding community character, the mall’s line-up of 34 stores offers a well-balanced tenant mix.
To commemorate this important milestone, a VIP event was held on Wednesday, 26 November, bringing together members of the media, the Municipal Manager Mr Martin Tsatsimpe, the development partner Mr Velaudan and key delegates from local authorities. Retailer partners and other important stakeholders also attended, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for the Kuruman community. Guests were also treated to a special choir performance by Laerskool Kuruman, along with a vibrant marimba showcase by the Agisanang Arts Ensembles, adding a memorable cultural touch to the celebration.
Municipal Manager Mr Martin Tsatsimpe added, “This project symbolises the power of collaboration between government and the private sector. Our partnership with the Moolman Group and their partner Mr Velaudhan reflects a shared vision for sustainable development, job creation and economic opportunity. This mall rises from an area once overshadowed by crime, transforming it into a vibrant and safe economic node that gives Kuruman renewed hope and possibility.”
Segonyana Mall also prioritises local participation. During construction, significant
opportunities were created for local contractors and workers, contributing directly to job creation and skills development in the area. “The opening of Segonyana Mall is a proud moment for Kuruman,” said John Valtyn. “Being part of this journey has been an incredible experience, and I’m proud to see this vision come to life — a place that truly belongs to the community.”
Segonyana Mall is more than just a shopping centre; it’s a space that brings people together. It marks a new chapter for Kuruman’s CBD, creating a safe place where shopping, connection, and local growth come together.
